Research Interests: I have always been curious about how plants withstand herbivory, given the sheer number of herbivores and the multiple ways that they can attack and harm plants. In addition, what we can’t always see from a plant (i.e., the roots) have always fascinated me as often in the Cerrado ecosystem this is the only part of a plant that remains after wildfires, and voila, after a few months the plant is healthy and growing again. Thus, in more technical terms, my research focuses on above and belowground plant-herbivore interactions (particularly, plant induced defenses), testing hypotheses to understand the mechanisms underlying these interactions through manipulative field and laboratory experiments and chemical analyses.
